The Sims

The Sims is a strategy life simulator videogame for computers, created by the fantastic videogame designer Will Wright, developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts in the year 2000.
Will Wright was successful in his other projects, like SimCity and it's sequels. His games always had a lot of micromanaging going on, and also were sandbox games, which means the players can play however they want, do whatever they want and use their creativity to transform the game to what they want it to be.

The Sims was the first videogame of its kind, and there isn't a sim game out there that has beaten this series on the most selling PC game ever yet. The creators thought of the game as a virtual dollhouse, where each character had their own personality and acted according to it. The characters, "sims", can interact with each other, receive visits from neighbours and do all kinds of stuff at home (and, later on, at community lots too). They could also get a job and get to the top of the career, have babies, see them grow up to be children, get married...

What makes the game most enjoyable, is the fact that there's plenty of stuff to customize, from the sims you create to their new home, all is decided by the player and can be altered to their liking.
But the player also needs to fulfill the sims' basic needs (hunger, energy, bladder, fun...). Or not? It's up to the players wether the life of their sims will be pleasing or just a mess.

The game and expansions

If you are a fan, you must know the rest so I'm not writing a complete review on what is exactly the game. But I'm going to write a bit about the base game and the expansions with time, so check back soon if you are interested!

The fanlisting

According to "A fanlisting is simply an online list of fans of a subject, such as a TV show, actor, or musician, that is created by an individual and open for fans from around the world to join. There are no costs, and the only requirements to join a fanlisting are your name and country. Fanlistings do not have to be large sites (although some are), they are just a place where you can sign up with other fans."

Why The Sims?

I've been a fan of The Sims since I was 9 years old. I've grown up playing the game and it's sequels, and I still love it like the first day. I love simulation games, where you can play to be other people, or do whatever you want. I also like to customize about anything I can, so The Sims is such a great way to let out some creativity.
I really recommend anyone tries it out (and the sequels, too). It's been my favourite PC game of all time, and many other people's too!

Site and layout

This fanlisting is run with Enthusiast and is mantained by Janna.
You are currently viewing version 1 of Do you canoe?. The design was completely created by me and I used resources / pictures from Simprograms.

The design uses jquery to make the pop ups, I wanted to make something special for this fanlisting! There's not much else to say about it, because I decided to keep it simple, yet remind us of what The Sims was :3 The fanlisting pop up windows try to resemble the pop up messages (for missing work, getting a new friend, etc) from the original game!
This design is best viewed in Firefox with a screen resolution of 1024x768.

Also, if you are a fan fo The Sims series, you must already know, but the title for this fanlisting "Do you canoe?", is an inside joke from the game, where someone would phone you and ask you that same question, making you feel stupid for waking up your sim to pick up the phone just to get that prank!

Do you canoe? (2012 - present) is maintained by Janna and is part of the G.O.O.D love collective. I'm in no way affiliated with Will Wright, Maxis, EA or any of their representants, this is only a fansite and no copyright infringement was intended ♥
